A FORMER soldier from Ellesmere Port enlisted the help of his entire workforce to send more than 50 gift boxes to troops in Afghanistan.

As an ex-serviceman of the Royal Welsh Regiment, Clive Jones knew how it felt to be serving in the armed forces, thousands of miles away from home, so he decided to organise as many boxes of treats and everyday goods as possible to be sent to those currently serving abroad.

Clive gathered the support of his work colleagues at DRB engineering group on the Deeside Industrial Estate to donate items such as sweets, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, underwear, biscuits, shower gel, puzzle books and suncream, and before long there were 53 boxes ready to be sent off.

“I know from experience how much a small parcel from home can brighten up your day when you’re out there on the frontline, so I just decided I would do something for the lads out there,” said Clive.

“I can’t believe how much support I got from everyone at work, we’re only a small company but everyone donated something for the boxes and it just seemed to keep coming so we sent another lot off.

“Some of the ladies at work have even made female boxes for the women out there – it’s really put a nice smile on my face that everyone has been so good, it’s great.”
