ELLESMERE Port mayor Gareth Anderson has named former councillor Henny Moore as his first ‘community mayor’.

During his 12-month reign, Cllr Anderson, 30, wants to reward community stalwarts by having them accompany him to civic events.

Mr Moore has been running the Ace Club for people with physical and learning difficulties for 28 years.

Speaking after a visit to the club’s weekly meeting at Great Sutton Village Hall, Cllr Anderson said: “It’s a truly outstanding achievement and the perfect reason why I was so pleased he accepted the offer to take up this new role. The Ace Club is a superb place for people of all ages with learning difficulties and their families to get together and have a great evening out.

“Without exception they were having a great time as always and it was a pleasure to go round and chat to them all.

“I would also like to thank Henny and the Ace Club for the beautiful cake they presented to me to mark the start of my year in office. It was a really lovely and very generous thought.”
