HE WAS once the bassist of a band with a number one selling album - but now he has something different to celebrate.

Tim Brown has just collected his first class honours in teaching secondary education at John Moores University.

Mr Brown played the bass for the pop band The Boo Radleys. The group had a string of hits in the mid-1990s including the top ten hit Wake Up Boo!

Their album Wake Up was also a hit making the number one spot. But after seven albums the band decided to call it a day.

The 34-year-old has already got a job at Park School in Birkenhead teaching IT.

Mr Brown from New Brighton said: "We had released seven albums with Creation and the last one hadn't done so well.

"It was just before Creation was sold out to Sony and we had an option on the next album so it was a matter of either just hanging around and waiting to get dropped or splitting up.

"After that I spent about a year and a half running my own digital studio but that wasn't making a lot of money and I was doing part-time work as well.

"After that I decided to go into teaching IT. I have always loved computers since I was about 11. Later on with the band we were using a lot of computers as well so it's something I knew about."

While doing teaching experience at Park School the headteacher invited him to come back and work once he had graduated.

He will work alongside his sister Jen who graduated from John Moores University last year.
