A FOOTBALLER’S wife from Northwich will be strapping on her running shoes to tackle the London Marathon for charity.
Mhari Oakes, married to Cardiff City goalkeeper Michael Oakes, is tackling the famous 26-mile course with her best friend Clare Thomas, from Middlewich.
The former St Nicholas RC High School pupils, both aged 30, are aiming to raise a total of £2,400 for the Shaw Trust, which supports more than 60,000 people a year who are socially excluded.
Disabled people, single parents, ethnic minority groups, young people leaving care and people with a history of alcohol and substance abuse will all benefit from Mhari and Clare’s hard work.
And the girls have been getting training tips from former Aston Villa and Wolves ‘keeper Michael about the best way to prepare for the race on April 13.
Mhari said: “As it will be our first marathon, our aim will be to run or jog all the way around without stopping. That in itself will be a massive achievement for us.
“Of course a good finish time would be a bonus, but I don't think either of us will be overtaking Paula Radcliffe quite yet!”
