WITTON Albion regained the Mid Cheshire Senior Cup after easing past Congleton Town 2-0 on Monday night.

Gary Finley’s men got their hands on the trophy for the first time in four years after Kieran Lugsden notched a brace in front of 206 supporters at Wincham Park.

Lugsden gave Witton the lead on three minutes after the in-form Brad Maylett sent a low cross into the box.

The visiting Bears were reduced to 10 men on the half-hour mark when Andy Bostock was given his second yellow card but Witton had to wait until the 67th minute before making the game safe.

Neil Black sent in a curling free kick from the right which Lugsden headed home past the helpless Adam Wilkes.

Lugsden then failed to add the gloss to a memorable night by seeing his penalty saved by Wilkes that would have completed his hat-trick.

Witton supporters are invited to a fans’ information meeting at Wincham Park tomorrow (Thurs) at 8pm.
