WITTON Albion beat the UniBond Premier transfer deadline by ten minutes to land striker Saul Otobo.

The pacy frontman arrives at Wincham Park from Blue Square North side Vauxhall Motors, where he made nine appearances, scoring once.

Otobo was in the squad to face Nantwich Town last night, a match that took place as the Chronicle went to press.

Witton also officially announced the signing of Ashley Dunn from Fleetwood Town. The midfielder was on loan but he has now joined the club on a permanent basis.

After last Wednesday’s 0-0 disappointment at home to Whitby Town, Witton were frustrated once more as high winds caused the return fixture with the Seasiders on Saturday to be called off.

Assistant manager Lee Coathup said: “It was disappointing but it would have been a farce. It was the right decision as the wind was howling and the floodlights shaking.”

The fixture has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 22 (7.45pm).

Witton are not in action in the league until Good Friday when they host bottom club Prescot Cables (3pm).

Coathup added: “It’s the final run in. We are in a mini-league of about six teams fighting to stay up so every game is huge for us.”
