WINSFORD United grabbed a vital point on Saturday to boost hopes of survival in the Vodkat Premier League.
The 2-2 draw at Nelson inched the battling Blues up to 18th – a position strengthened by relegation rivals Flixton who have had four points deducted for fielding an ineligible player and now occupy the second spot in the drop zone.
On Saturday, United looked odds on to taking all three points from their trip to Victoria Park after Les Miranda fired home on 18 minutes.
Two minutes later, new signing 17-year-old Omar Mahmoud spotted the Nelson keeper anticipating a cross and fired a shot into the net from a tight angle.
But the Blues could not hold out as Krystian Liptrot struck on half-time and 67 minutes to share the spoils.
Manager Joe Gibiliru said: “It was a fantastic improvement and a good point although it was a shame we couldn’t get all three.
“Again it was a defensive error that cost us but it was a decent display and another step towards safety.
“I think another win will be good enough for us.”
Winsford visited Abbey Hey, who lie just one place above them, last night (Tuesday).
