A FOOTBALL fun day will raise money for Comic Relief.

Whitby Soccer Centre at the back of Whitby Sports and Social Club will host a variety of activities relating to the beautiful game to raise cash for Red Nose Day on Sunday.

There are four artificial turf pitches at the centre and all have been donated free of charge for an event Sainsbury’s in Cheshire Oaks has to helped to arrange.

Dave Duckworth of the Whitby five-a-side centre said there will be a beat the goalie challenge, coaching sessions, skills coaching, impromptu five-a-side games for the public and many other fun events.

He said: “We’re going to ask for £1 for three shots against the goalie, but as long as people are enjoying themselves we’ll be happy.

“Donations will be gratefully received but not necessary. I want people to have a good time and remember it.”

Mayor Gareth Anderson will attend and a Liverpool shirt signed by Jamie Carragher will be up for grabs, with an auction and raffle among the entertainment. Tickets to Chester Zoo and the Blue Planet will also be available.

The fun starts at noon and ends at 6.30pm after the Sainsbury’s five-a-side team tournament.

Sainsbury’s staff will participate in game, with the winners receiving the Sainsbury’s trophy. Kick-off for the five-a-side match will be about 4.30pm.
