WITTON Albion moved up to third place in UniBond First Division South after fans’ favourite Mike Moseley struck a second-half winner to defeat Grantham Town on Saturday.

The striker provided a clinical finish just after half-time at the Gingerbreads’ South Kesteven Sports Stadium to seal a deserved 1-0 victory.

Witton boss Gary Finley was delighted his side has kept a clean sheet. He said: “We have worked hard this week on trying to keep our shape when we have not got the ball. We want to make it harder for teams and not concede silly goals.

“It was a scrappy game played mostly in midfield but our keeper Joe Clegg has not had a save to make all game and they never looked like scoring.”

Albion hosted Kidsgrove last night and this Saturday, Finley can look forward to a return to his former club Colwyn Bay as Witton hope to progress in the FA Trophy.

He added: “We want to win every game we play and we would like to put a run together in the cup.

“I did well for Colwyn Bay as manager so I can go back there with my head held high.”

Next Tuesday, Witton travel to Chasetown (7.45pm) as they look to enforce their position among the league’s frontrunners.

Finley said: “This team is by no means the finished article. We are a work in progress. We have won the five of our last six games so there is a bit of consistency. It’s good that we are improving.”
