A MAN from Pen-y-Cae has been busy ‘mulching’ for charity.

Frederick John Archer has raised £1,521.65 over the last two years for Nightingale House and more than £4,000 for other charities over the last seven years.

He runs a small tree surgery business, Basic Arbor: Teamwork & Stumpgrinding Specialist, in Afonietha Road, Pen-y-Cae, and any tree debris Mr Archer collects is chipped into garden mulch. Mulch is used on flower and vegetable beds and reduces the amount of time spent on weeding, watering and fighting pests.

The mulch is stored in Mr Archers yard, from where the public can come and collect, in return for a donation to his chosen charity.

Sandra Monks, Nightingale House’s community fundraiser, said: “We are very grateful for Frederick’s continued support and kind donations to Nightingale House Hospice over the last two years. His hard work and kindness is a merit to him.”

Nightingale House provides specialist palliative care services, free-of-charge, to patients and their families.
