WEAVERHAM anglers have been warned to be on their guard following a number of thefts of fishing equipment.
During the past two weeks there have been several thefts from sheds and garages in the village with angling accessories taken in many of the cases.
Now Inspector Peter Minghella is asking all fishermen to look improve their security
Inspector Minghella, who heads Northwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “We are used to telling people how to best secure their bikes and DIY equipment, but the move to stealing fishing rods and other accessories is unusual.
“However the message for residents – and anglers – is the same, always use the best possible measures to secure your property.
“Also, consider whether a shed or garage is the best place to house angling equipment – particularly if, as is often the case, it is valuable or a large collection.
“If you will be storing property in a shed or garage invest in good quality locks that will make life difficult for criminals and deter most opportunist thieves.
“Consideration should also be given to marking property with something which is easily identifiable.”
