A FOOTBALL club has kicked vandals into touch thanks to a glazing company.

Ellesmere Port FC, who play at Whitby Sports and Social Club, have replaced their old dug-outs with modern seating which can be kept in storage.

The previous dug-outs were continually littered with broken beer bottles which forced club members to turn up early for matches to clear away the mess.

Team boss Carl Smyth was discussing the problem with social club member Billy Griffiths from W&T Glazing, which has a store in Cromwell Road, who offered help.

With the materials purchased by the club he built two new dug-outs out of glass that can’t be broken and wheels so they can be kept safe in storage.

Mr Smyth said: “We’ve had a lot of problems with vandals and needed to find a solution. We looked at some of these types of dug-outs on the internet and they cost about £3,000.

“I was speaking to Billy about it one day and he said leave it with me. He’s ended up doing them better than the ones on the internet and we’ve only had to pay for the materials so they’ve virtually been donated.”

The club unveiled the new dug-outs before their opening match of the league season on Saturday.
