PASSING motorists alerted the fire service to a major barn fire near Rossett on Monday.
Shortly before 8am, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a barn fire at a property on Burton Road.
Motorists travelling along the A483 Wrexham by-pass reported the fire to the service during the day.
The fire involved an eight-bay barn which was reported to be well-alight. Various agricultural implements were stored in the barn at the time of the fire.
Two crews from Wrexham and crews from Johnstown and Chester attended the incident and hydrants and water shuttles helped extinguish the fire.
On the advice of the Environment Agency, crews worked with environmental protection equipment to stop water from entering water courses.
Firefighters spent more than eight hours tackling the blaze, the cause of which is still under investigation.
