FIRE chiefs and representatives from the Fire Fighters Charity are keen to thank people in Ellesmere Port for supporting their recent car wash which raised nearly £700.

This will go to the charity which provides support to serving and retiring firefighters.

Firefighters and cadets held the car wash at their station in Ellesmere Port last month and many people went along to support the event.

A programme of successful car washes were held throughout Cheshire, Halton & Warrington in September and almost £5,900 was raised for the charity which provides support to firefighters and their families.

Drivers were also given vital road safety advice.

Mark Cashin, chair of the Fire Fighters Charity in Cheshire said: “Every year, thousands of firefighters are injured while protecting the public. The Fire Fighters Charity assists over 13,500 individuals every year, by providing pioneering treatment and support services.

“I am extremely grateful to the residents who went along and supported the car wash in Ellesmere Port and to our own staff and cadets for holding this very successful fundraising event.”

He added: “It costs over £9m every year to keep the charity running, and with no government funding, the charity is completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire community.”
