A WEM who set fire to her terraced home causing £14,000 worth of damage has been jailed for 16 months at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Judge Robin Onions told Andrea Meek, 22, of Brookfields, Rue Wood, Wem; “The message has to go out from the courts that people involved in arson are likely to receive immediate custodial sentences.”

Meek admitted charges of arson at a house in New Street, Wem, being reckless over whether lives would be endangered, and a second charge of making a hoax call to Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Prosecutor Richard Dewsbury said the fire occurred on December 2 last year at the New Street terraced house which had neighbours either side.
