WINSFORD martial artists showed their steel by bringing back honours from this year’s British Shukokai Karate Union Championships.
Dave Warburton and his koshido-ryu students all won medals at the showcase event held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.
Karl Barlow and Emily Simpson stole the show both winning their individual weight category and also the open category where they can fight anyone of any size.
Simpson, returning to Sheffield as the current champion, claimed victory once more in the ladies black belt 60k and the open event. She also achieved second in the kumite ladies 60k and third in the open kumite category.
Not to be outdone, Barlow also did the double claiming first place in the over 35 male kumite and in the open. Anthony Robson achieved a well-deserved third place in a hard-fought category in the boys 10-11 third kyu and above.
Warburton said: “We always do well in the championships and over the years we have enjoyed great success. Karl and Emily both did the double which is great.”
Warburton’s karate coaching sessions take place at Woodford Lodge sports centre on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Children’s classes run from 6-7pm and adults from 7.15-8.30pm.
