FOUR thousand jobs could be created in Ellesmere Port, thanks to Government funding of £6m.

The three-year grant from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund aims to unlock the potential of major employment sites across the town, support the growth of existing business and attract major new investment.

It follows a bid made by the Ellesmere Port Development Board with support from Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Developments will include the construction and upgrading of roads, remediation of land, improved transport links and environmental improvements.

Ellesmere Port Development Board chairman Robert Mee said it was ‘fantastic news’ for Ellesmere Port.

“This builds on our success so far – our hard work is paying off real dividends and we have successfully created Ellesmere Port as a location that is recognised as business and investment-friendly,” he said.

“Now the funding can be spent unlocking the development of key sites in the town and this will be completed over a three year period bringing major employment opportunities for local residents.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council leader Mike Jones added: “This £6m caps an incredibly successful year for Ellesmere Port, which includes the recent announcements from GM Vauxhall, Jaguar Land Rover and the unveiling of the Marks & Spencer flagship store.

“This also demonstrates what a great place Ellesmere Port is to invest in, and the council will continue to support businesses if they are interested in looking at investing in the town.

“As well as the potential of creating four thousand jobs there could be 1,600 indirect jobs in supporting the companies which could be based in Ellesmere Port.”
