THE family of a nine-year-old boy who died after he was hit by two cars told how they were taking each day as it comes.

Last week, the family including dad Robert Jones, stepmum Tara Green, mum Dawn Richards and her partner Graham Crofts, handed over a cheque to Alder Hey Hospital, Liverpool, who cared for Robbie Gaunt before he died.

Robbie, a pupil of St Christopher’s School, Wrexham, suffered head injuries and fractures when he was struck by two cars close to his home in Overton, near Wrexham.

He died two days later at Alder Hey in March leaving the devastated family to come to terms with the tragedy.

Ms Green said she backed calls for greater safety measures on the A539 Overton Road near Erbistock, where the tragedy happened.

Ms Green said: “The family has presented the donation which is £450 to Alder Hey Hospital’s intensive care unit parachute fund.

“I do believe they should introduce more safety measures on the road where the accident happened.”

Following Robbie’s death, 61-year-old David James Lunn, of Moorland Avenue, Queen’s Park, Wrexham, was charged with causing his death while driving an uninsured vehicle and not in accordance with his license.

Police also charged Lunn with failing to stop and failing to report a collision, two counts of driving while uninsured, driving without a license and perverting the course of justice.

He is due to reappear in Mold Crown Court on Friday for a plea and case management hearing.

A woman, aged 58, has been released on bail.

Anybody who would like to make a donation in memory of Robbie is asked by the family to contact Alder Hey Hospital.
