A NORTHWICH man has pleaded guilty to murdering teenager Rhys Butler at Chester Crown Court.

Ian Broughton, 28, of Priory Street admitted killing the 17-year-old, from Liverpool, at a hearing today, Friday.

An eight day trial was due to get under way on Wednesday, January 14, but a hearing was arranged earlier this week so the defendant, a former Witton Church Walk Primary and Rudheath High pupil could change his plea.

Rhys’ body was found at a flat in Peckforton Way, Castle in June. Police said he had been the victim of a violent assault in a row over drugs.

Broughton was remanded in custody by Recorder of Chester Judge Elgan Edwards, and will be sentenced next Friday, January 16.
