FORMER Wrexham favourite Lee Trundle last night scored a soccer first by bringing out his own clothing range.

The chirpy Scouser netted a deal giving him a slice of all merchandising carrying his photo, sold by his new club Swansea.

The potentially-lucrative image-rights deal was believed to be the first of its kind outside the Barclays Premiership.

Much of all Swans merchandise now on sale features the 29-year-old striker.

The deal will give the League One top scorer more control over how his name is used.

Trundle, who only turned pro when he was 24 and was previously a fans' favourite at Rhyl in the Welsh Premiership, said: "It's really exciting. The deal's going to be on the merchandise, and I'm also looking at bringing out my own clothing range.

"I'm going to have an input into the design of the clothes as well.

"It's the first deal of its kind outside of the Premiership so it's a big achievement for me."

The deal was negotiated by Trundle's agent Neil Sang and the club over a period of months.

Trundle denies securing the deal had anything to do with his decision to stay at Liberty Stadium following a reported £750,000 offer from Sheffield Wednesday.

"We've been talking to the club for ages about the deal and I have stayed whatever the outcome," the 11-goal marksman said.

A Swansea spokesman said: "Most of the merchandising Swansea sell is linked to Trundle.

"It's a deal that is mutually beneficial to both parties."

Trundle has become a talismanic figure at Swansea since joining from Wrexham in the summer of 2003 on a free transfer.

He scored 23 goals last season, and his 11 goals so far this season have helped his team to third place in the League One table.
