JOBSEEKERS in Ellesmere Port can pick up tips on how to get work at an event designed to help people find employment.

Organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council, the event, on Thursday, October 11, from 10am-3pm at the EPIC Leisure Centre, follows on from the recent ‘Getting a Job’ roadshows, which proved to be a big success.

It aims to help people who have been long-term unemployed, recent graduates or students to gain the right skills to find work.

Support will be offered in a range of areas, from dressing for success, confidence and assertiveness to CV writing to interview techniques, how to search for jobs and presentation skills.

Attendees will also be able to find out about career opportunities within the retail and care sectors.

Cllr Herbert Manley, executive member for prosperity, said: “Quite often many people who find themselves unemployed for whatever reason want to get back into work but find that one part of their skills set is letting them down at interview.

“This roadshow is a perfect way to gather all of the help and support you need from experts who can advise you on an individual basis under one roof.

“I would encourage all residents local to Ellesmere Port who may be looking to get back into work but are having problems for any reasons to visit this free event and see what our experts can do to help.”

A number of workshops will be taking place for visitors to join in with and information available on how to overcome any barriers that people may incur on the road to employment and searching for jobs online.

Expert advice and support will be available for organisations including the council’s employment, skills and learning department, JobCentre Plus, Brio Leisure, colleges and partner organisations, and there will be a free off-peak swim at Brio to any attendees.

Ellesmere Port Development Board member and local resident Anne Davies said: “In the current economic climate, finding a job can be tough but in our area there is a lot of help and a wealth of experience available to help find a new job and to present yourself to future employers in the best possible way.

“Ellesmere Port is bucking the trend nationally and continuing to attract new businesses to the town and we need to make sure that our local residents are ready and equipped to excel at interviews and secure jobs to see the benefits across the area.”
