A CONTENTIOUS playground has been removed.

The issue arose at the Badgers Croft play area on Berwick Road, Little Sutton.

Occupiers campaigned for the equipment to be removed as they believed it attracted anti-social behaviour.

Others felt very strongly it should be reinstated.

The play equipment has been taken away, according to a report, and councillors have agreed to take no further action to seek its reinstatement.

Developers agreed to donate the equipment to the borough council for use elsewhere in the borough.

Head of environmental services Mike Whittaker said he wrote to residents in the area and to Badgers Croft residents association outlining the council’s proposal.

The association confirmed it had not been approached with any issue regarding the removal of the equipment.

They pointed out that apart from the association, the majority of the residents on the estate had been in favour of the equipment being removed and hoped the issue was now finally resolved.

The association points out the management of Badgers Croft now rests with a management company and an action plan is in hand to redesign the open space “from which all will benefit.”

Occupiers are to be informed of the proposal and how it will be funded.
