A YOUTH club has celebrated a successful first year.

The Catch 22 Crew opened its doors in April last year and has just celebrated its first birthday.

The youth club, based at Stanlaw Abbey Children's Centre on Alnwick Drive, works with eight-13 year olds who work with the Catch 22 prevention and Inclusion Team and is aimed at giving the young people of Ellesmere Port and Neston a chance to socialise with their peers in a supportive environment, engaging in positive activities.

The mayor of Ellesmere Port Pat Merrick attended along with councillor Angela Claydon, who officially opened the youth club last year and who donated £300 to the club to help fund additional activities

Project worker Lucy Jones said: ‘’The youth club supports young people to tackle issues such as bullying, self-esteem, team building to name a few.

“These young people look forward to coming once a week and making new friends.’’

The prevention and Inclusion team plans projects with the young people, and offer them additional support outside of their school life.

Lucy added: “The additional funding we received has been spent to support our projects. For example the young people attended a theatre trip to the Liverpool Institute of performing arts where they watched freckleface strawberry to address the issue of self-esteem.’

“We are thankful for the mayor’s support, as she recognises we work with young people from all over Ellesmere Port and Neston. She kindly presented the young people with certificates on their achievements from the past year.”
