A STORYTELLING event was held to launch National Bookstart Week.

The event, at Little Sutton Library, was a great success.

Senior library assistant Paulette Peake said: “It was a beautiful hot sunny day and we hoped that children would still want to come along on such a lovely day.

“We had lots of children come along, plus the staff and children of Tiny Tots Nursery joined in too.”

Author and model-maker Daisy Dawes, who has worked as a model- maker on Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, Pingu and Rex the Runt, is a the author of children's book Get Ahead Fred and has a new book due out in the autumn.

She read stories to the children, including Where The Wild Things Are and The Pirate Crunchers which fitted in with this year’s National Bookstart Week theme, All Aboard. Daisy then helped the children make and decorate paper boats to continue the theme.

Paulette added: “MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, Andrew Miller, councillor Ben Powell and Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Angela Claydon, helped the children with their crafts and Angela kindly read some stories.

“The day was a great success, well received by everyone, including our special guests.”

Councillor Powell added: “It was a fantastic day.”
