A FUNDRAISING former Army captain originally from Ellesmere Port carried the Olympic torch on her scooter.

Great-grandmother Evelyn Crow, 64, was a torchbearer near her adopted home in the village of Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire, on Wednesday, June 27.

A decade ago, Evelyn – who left Ellesmere Port as a teenager in 1965 to join the Army – was seriously injured in a road collision while travelling to her mother’s funeral in Hooton.

Forced to resign her military commission, she has travelled in a wheelchair or scooter ever since.

Since the accident, she has completed swimathons for charity and is growing her hair to make wigs for people who have lost their hair undergoing chemotherapy.
