A SCHOOL library launched its Big Summer Read by getting students to settle down with a good book.

More than 750 pupils and 100 staff at Ellesmere Port Specialist School of Performing Arts stopped work to enjoy an hour of reading.

School librarian Jayne Hughes said: “This event was a culmination of a week of activities designed to promote reading for pleasure.

“Pupils were encouraged to borrow a book to read over the summer holidays and were also encouraged to visit the local public libraries over the summer break.

“The event was a huge success and due to demand another whole school read is planned for the next academic year.”
