A SIX-YEAR-OLD girl’s first haircut will help make wigs for young children who have lost their hair to cancer.

When Ruby Davies, of Overpool Road, Ellesmere Port, saw a TV programme about a little girl who cut her hair off and donated it to children with cancer, she decided she was going to do the same.

Ruby, who had previously sported long flowing locks after being born with ‘a whole lot’ of hair, had only ever had the ends trimmed and was due for her first proper haircut.

Instead she told her mum Gemma, 31, that she wanted to donate her hair to The Little Princess Charity, which provides real-hair wigs to children in the UK who have lost theirs after cancer treatment.

Last week the Brookside Primary School pupil had the chop at the Style Council hair salon and now looks ‘very different’, according to her mum.

Mrs Davies said: “We were just watching a TV show about a little girl who cut her hair for charity and the next morning Ruby woke up and asked if she could do the same.

“It was very long before and now it’s just below her shoulder, she does look noticeably different.

She added: “When she told me what she wanted to do, I just thought it was such a lovely gesture and I’m so proud of her.

“There are so many people I want to thank for their help in sponsoring Ruby though, including family and friends, teachers and parents from Brookside school, Mecca Bingo in Chester and Ellesmere Port, the Woodlands pub, Grace Arms, Wetherspoon in Overpool, as well as the Style Council salon and the Royal School of Military Engineering in Chatham, Kent.”

The total amount of money Ruby has raised through sponsorship is yet to be counted but contributions are still being accepted and in the meantime you can show your support to Ruby by donating money via charity boxes at Brookside Primary School.
