ELLESMERE Port and Neston MP Andrew Miller has slammed the Government’s ‘bedroom tax’.

Mr Miller says revealed National Housing Federation figures which show 1,091 households in his constituency will be hit by the tax, losing on average £728 per year.

The Government has introduced the tax in a bid to solve under-occupancy of homes.

Labour MP Mr Miller said: “David Cameron’s bedroom tax will hammer families in Ellesmere Port and Neston who are already struggling to make ends meet, and could actually risk costing local taxpayers a fortune in higher private rents and covering the cost of driving people out of their homes.

“Two-thirds of the households hit are home to someone with a disability, and the families of soldiers and foster parents will also be hit. Yet at the same time millionaires are getting a massive tax cut.

“How can that be right? Britain needs real welfare reform that is tough, fair and that works, not more chaos and confusion from this coalition Government.

“Their bedroom tax is unfair and in total disarray. “
