ONE of the challenges of modern society is that families no longer live in tight knit communities. Whilst the majority of young people grow up in well disciplined families, we have too many who know their rights but not their responsibilities.

A negative impact of this has been a rise in anti-social behaviour as well as nuisance crime. The police need to be more responsive to the needs of communities and spend more time on the beat.

Parents must take their share of responsibility by ensuring they know where their children are and work with schools and other authorities to instill discipline. In the extreme, parents must be held responsible for the actions of their children.

The low price of alcohol has tempted many, as has the growth of illegal drugs. We have to clamp down on those who supply, especially to the young.

I also want to see progress in the work I have been doing to improve sport facilities, like the proposed Sports Village at Stanney. Finally I also want to continue working with youth organisations like the Scouts and Cadet forces which do much good for our community.
