A MUM-OF-FOUR is urging fundraisers to return their sponsorship money.

Cathi Knight and her daughter Bryony, both of Great Sutton, took part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event at Birkenhead Park in memory of Cathi’s sister Jan Lewis.

Jan was 16 years old when she was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer, in 1999.

She had the cancerous mole removed from her leg but died in August 2000, aged 18, after the disease had spread into her lymph glands.

Jan was a well known figure in the local community having risen to the highest rank possible in the Air Training Corps – cadet warrant officer.

Cathi, who works as an inclusion officer at an Ellesmere Port high school, said: “Jan coped better with her cancer diagnosis than anyone else we had ever met.

“She remained upbeat and always made everyone laugh. We have no idea if she knew she was dying.

“She never let anyone down and always knew how to guide and bring out the best in others.

“We just hope that by raising money for Cancer Research UK we can make a difference to stop other families in the future having to go through what we suffered.”
