AN ELLESMERE Port man who mugged a pensioner in a violent attack has been jailed for three years and four months.

Leigh Stone, 28, of Ludlow Drive, wrestled the 75-year-old to the ground in broad daylight and dragged her along the street as she fought to hold on to her handbag during the incident on Leighton Road, Neston, on October 23.

Stone’s savage attack left his victim needing stitches to her badly bruised face.

A member of the public intervened to try to stop the robbery but Stone continued in his assault.

He managed to grab the bag before fleeing.

Stone evaded the police for a day before being arrested.

He was sentenced at Chester Crown Court on Friday.

Detective Constable Tim Cope said: “This was a despicable act which left the victim shaken and injured by her ordeal.”
