A DRUG addict admitted hiding a stash of drugs with a street value of more than £300 behind a car radio when stopped by police.

Jason Robinson, 39, of Doune Court, Ellesmere Port, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Monday charged with possession of a Class B drug.

Robinson was stopped by a patrol car travelling along the A41 on January 12. He was seen fiddling with the radio, where 61 grammes of amphetamine was later discovered.

Defending, Chris Hunt, criticised the police investigation into the case. Despite identifying the drug as amphetamine paste and admitting possession for personal use, Robinson was originally charged with possession of crystallised Class A drug methylamphetamine with intent to supply.

He said: “It’s quite ludicrous that we’ve got to this stage two months on when he admitted at the time that it was for personal use.”

Magistrates gave Robinson a 12 month conditional discharge.
