Siege man charged

POLICE surrounded a house for 90 minutes after an alleged rapist locked himself in a bathroom armed with a knife.

Sheldon Ward, 26, of Ellesmere Port, appeared at Chester Magistrates Court on Tuesday on charges of rape, theft and affray following the incident at a house in Durham Road, Blacon on Sunday (October 21).

Officers had to seal off the property and negotiate with Ward, who had barricaded himself inside and was threatening to harm himself.

He came out of the address of his own accord around 90 minutes later and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of a serious sexual assault and breach of an harrassment order, and was later charged.

Cannabis raid arrest

A MAN was been arrested on suspicion of growing cannabis after a police raid in Ellesmere Port.

Officers spent several hours at the house in Plemston Court, Rivacre, on Tuesday after entering at 8am.

Cheshire police spokeswoman Rachel Hayes said: “At 8am on Tuesday October 23, local officers carried out a warrant at an address in Plemston Court in Ellesmere Port.

“A search was made of the address and items seized.

“A 54-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. He is currently in custody.”

Bungalow application

ALTERATIONS were proposed to give a bungalow a more pleasing appearance.

The application was made at 16 Warren Drive, Ellesmere Port, by Fay Clarke.

The alterations would be more pleasing and would enhance visual amenity.

Although many nearby bungalows had retained their original finish, others had been clad in a similar fashion to that proposed by Miss Clarke.

Permission was recommended and the borough council agreed the application could be approved.
