AN ELLESMERE Port drug addict who attacked his own mother, trashed her house and stole cash from her handbag when she refused to give him money was jailed for a year after she reported him to the police.

Aiden Jukes, 30, of Barnston Avenue pleaded guilty to five charges which included assault, theft and criminal damage at Chester Crown Court on Monday.

The court heard Judith Jukes had returned to her home on January 15 just before midnight to find her son in her living room with a group of friends.

Prosecuting Peter Frost said: “He asked her for money and became aggressive after she refused.

“She thought he would be violent towards her, and he did turn to violence, he slapped her, and took her handbag.”

“He then took her by the neck and threw her into the couch.”

The court heard how he grabbed £80 from her purse and left, it was then that Mrs Jukes took the difficult decision to call the police.

She then found her television had a crack in it, her handbag had been broken and that her bedroom had been ransacked by Jukes looking for money to feed his habit.

The police took Mrs Jukes to hospital for the night.

The police watched the house for Jukes’s return.

Mr Frost said: “At 3am the police saw the lights were on in the house, the defendant had returned.”

The court heard how when police told Jukes to leave the house he clambered out of an upstairs window and was then chased. When he was caught Jukes struggled with the officers and resisted arrest.

When the police went back into the house, it was clear that Jukes had again been searching for money.

Judge Elgan Edwards praised Mrs Jukes for reporting her son to the police.
