RESIDENTS in Ellesmere Port are being urged to wave for World Arthritis Day.

The Poole Independent Living Centre in New Grosvenor Road, Ellesmere Port, has shown its support for the 2012 Move to Improve campaign by waving for World Arthritis Day.

The campaign invites everyone to submit photos of people waving their support for World Arthritis Day on October 12.

Their target is to show 100,000 people waving to keep those with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) physically active.

World Arthritis Day was established in 1996 by Arthritis and Rheumatism International and is marked each year.

Cllr Brenda Dowding, the council’s executive member for adult social care and health, said: “It’s a wonderfully simply idea. It’s fun, it involves physical activity and everyone can join in.

“Staying physically active helps people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases remain in work and independent for longer.”

The Poole Independent Living Centre gives advice to help keep people independent and active in their own homes.

The centre is open Monday to Friday from 9am-4.30pm, or call 0151 337 6399.
