Fifth years from high school in 1969 travelled across the world to celebrate their 60th birthdays.

The reunion involved teenagers who completed their fifth year studies together at Whitby High, formerly Ellesmere Port Grammar School, at the end of the 1960s.

The year saw Led Zeppelin release their first album while The Beatles gave their last public performance.

The celebration saw school chums travelling from across the UK, Canada and Australia to join up for the celebration.

Sandra Blackburn arrived from the antipodes.

“It has been so much fun,” said Maureen Sparks, who travelled from Canada for the reunion.

“We have done this on several occasions over the years and it’s great to catch up and hear about each other’s achievements and personal lives.

“We have all been very successful in so many different ways.”

The group hope to get together again in the next few years and will continue to search for others in their class.

“Anyone who we are missing and was in this class please contact sparks@unb.ca,” said Maureen.
