MARIE Curie nurses have thanked the people of Ellesmere Port for raising more than £3,500 during the Great Daffodil Appeal.

Since the month long appeal launched on March 1, volunteer donation collectors and the Ellesmere Port Fundraising Group have been out in force across the town, in Asda, Morrisons and the Port Arcades.

Volunteers encouraged people to wear the charity’s daffodil pin and make a donation to support people with a terminal illness.

More funds are still coming in, but so far the appeal collections have raised £3,624.48.

Money raised from the Great Daffodil Appeal helps Marie Curie nurses provide free care to people with terminal illnesses in their own homes.

Marie Curie Cancer Care’s community fundraiser for Cheshire and North Staffordshire, Holly Smith said: “Thank you to everyone in Ellesmere Port who has supported Marie Curie Cancer Care and this year’s Great Daffodil Appeal – especially the amazing members of our brand new fundraising group who have done an incredible job organising the collections.

“From our brilliant volunteer donation collectors who tirelessly encouraged people to donate and wear a daffodil pin, the venues that allowed us to collect, members of the Ellesmere Port Lions and U3A, to everyone who gave what they could to support people with a terminal illness – I want to say a big, heartfelt thank-you.

“We simply could not continue to provide our important care without our army of dedicated volunteers and the seemingly un-ending generosity of the public. Thank you all so much.”
