FIREFIGHTERS spent nearly four hours dealing with a blaze at a town centre business premises.

Crews were called to Nation Tyres in Coronation Road, Ellesmere Port at 9.10pm on Saturday following a report that tyres were on fire.

Due to difficult access, a high volumes of smoke and suspected cylinder involvement, a further crew from Chester assisted at the scene.

Firefighter Clare Page of White Watch said: “The fire was extremely difficult to attack due to it being at the rear of an industrial storage container, thus requiring the firefighters to wear breathing apparatus and use a positive pressure ventilation fan.

“A large water jet was set up on the ground, which could be left in position to attack the fire, and two main jets were also used. The police were also in attendance.

“The cause of the fire is as yet unknown and serves as a reminder to businesses to be aware of their storage and general housekeeping.

“Also, it is important for all businesses to allocate a responsible key holder for their premises. The incident was finally able to be left at 1am the following day.”
