A much-loved pet cat was found decapitated in Ellesmere Port.

Munchie was discovered in Camden Road with her head and tail cut off and placed next to her body on October 23.

The RSPCA were called the next day, but were unable to get a vet to assess her injuries as the cat had already been buried.

They stressed it was possible it could have been done by an animal such as a fox, but the nature of the incident suggested human involvement.

RSPCA inspector Leigh-Anne Jones said: “As the cuts were very clean and the head was found right next to the body we’ve suspicions this was done by a human.

“But we’ve not had any other calls about similar incidents.

“The family are just really upset.

“They are worried about whether she suffered and really scared somebody is actually capable of doing this.”

Munchie belonged to a family in Ellesmere Port

Cat owners are advised to keep their pets inside at night to reduce to risk of them being attacked by wildlife.

The RSPCA also urged the public to be vigilant and to report anything of this nature to them on 0300 1234 999.
