WEST Cheshire College is kicking off a year of celebrations to mark the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games by hosting a demonstration in fencing.

Chester Fencing Club will be visiting the college’s Ellesmere Port campus tomorrow (Thursday) and will be talking to students as well as demonstrating the Olympic sport in front of staff, students and members of the public.

Last year West Cheshire College became a member of the Get Set network – the official London 2012 education programme for schools and colleges across the UK.

Helen Owen, manager of Care Services at West Cheshire College and organiser of the event, said: “As a member of the Get Set network we are planning numerous events throughout the year to celebrate London 2012.

“This fencing demonstration is the first of many such events that we hope will encourage our students, staff and the community to get involved with the Games.

“We hope to encourage more people to get active, learn a new sport and most of all have fun!”

The fencing demonstration will take place from 11.30am-1pm.
