A BUSINESS has won a national safety award.

Ellesmere Port-based Hortech Landscape Management was commended in the Forestry Sector accolade at the 2010 Occupational Health and Safety Awards ceremony.

General manager Duncan Jones said: “Our unique selling point is our safety award record and safety ethos. It is synonymous with the way in which we develop long-term partnerships with our customers.

“Having health and safety at the heart of our decision- making process makes us a more efficient organisation and better able to deliver the needs of the clients in a cost beneficial way.

“This demonstrates that good safety is good business.”

Hortech health, safety and resources manager Reg Sargeant received the award on behalf of the company.

He said: “We take the matter of proactive health and safety awareness very seriously, it is a huge achievement both for the company and the safety team to retain a fourth consecutive sector award.”

The event, at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, was a national award ceremony for businesses across the UK hosted by RoSPA chief executive Sir Tom Mullarkey.

A team of senior management representatives from Hortech including managing director Richard Powell, general manager Duncan Jones, commercial manager Andrew King and national accounts manager Shane Kosack received the award from Lord Jordan of Bournville (William Brian Jordan Esquire, CBE).

Hortech was the first UK company to be presented with the RoSPA Forestry (encompassing landscape management) Sector Award in 2007. Hortech provides an integrated, environmentally friendly landscape management service.
