A CHARITY which aims to support a variety of maritime causes in Merseyside, Wirral, Neston and Ellesmere Port has held its first presentation evening.

Friends of the Sea, founded in 2006, helps young people in the area of seafaring, the elderly who have been involved in maritime activities and seafarers visiting the port of Liverpool.

Their first formal presentation was held in West Kirby where of 14 successful applicants, including numerous members of the Sea Cadet corps, came to collect their cheques from chairman Patsy Dixon.

She said: “We hope that with continued and growing public support, Friends of the Sea will be able to cast its net even further next year in order to enrich the lives of young and old through maritime experiences.”
