A FATHER-OF-THREE who works at the Ellesmere Port academy has been voted the UK’s very first Mega Bloke of the Year 2010.

Rob Foster, who is a cover supervisor at the University of Chester Church of England Academy, beat 300 other candidates, including ten finalists, to take the number one spot.

The competition was organised by the website Madeformums in conjunction with toy firm Mega Blokes and invited women to tell them about the fantastic men in their lives.

Rob, 30, who lives in Deeside, impressed judges with the way he cares for his wife and children while also carrying out voluntary work to help youngsters and army cadets.

He said: “I am very proud and honoured. I certainly wasn’t expecting to win.

“I am quite shy about that sort of thing, it feels weird when people say ‘well done’ at work as I just see it as doing my job.”

He added: “I get so many ex-cadets leaving me messages on Facebook from Afghanistan and other places around the world.

“I like to think I played a part in helping them make something of themselves and getting them on the right path.”

Pete Fuller, marketing manager at Mega Blokes said: “We chose Rob for his sheer determination to provide the best for his family and commitment to helping others.

“His ability to manage his job, his training, his voluntary work for the Duke of Edinburgh schemes and the army cadets but also remain a brilliant hands-on dad to three young kids is extremely admirable.

“The fact that Rob wanted a job in the armed forces shows just how courageous and selfless he is as a person, and despite not being able to join, he has still managed to find a way to help and inspire others.

“With all the mixed views surrounding young people in Britain today, it is important to have guys like Rob to motivate kids to become the best they can be.”

Susie Boone, editor of www.madeformums.com, added: “We were delighted to help launch this initiative. It’s a brilliant opportunity to highlight the different ways dads and brothers, uncles, granddads and close male family friends play a vital part in family life.”

Kevin McDermott, principal at the University Church of England academy, said: “Rob is employed as a cover supervisor but gives us a lot more.

“He takes sports clubs, trips for students abroad, Duke of Edinburgh weekends and first aid courses.

“He is a true gentleman and demonstrates a care and passion for the development of our young people. He is a deserving winner of this award and on behalf of the staff, students and sponsors I would like to say 'well done'.”

Rob has won a three night B&B break with Luxury Family Hotels for the whole family, plus a bundle of Mega Bloks Pre-School goodies.
