THIS is an important question. Liberal Democrats believe that in a fair society everyone should have a right to a decent home but sadly this is not the reality. There should be quality social and private rented housing available for those who need or choose it.

Part of our plans is to bring 250,000 empty properties in the UK back into use. There around 200 empty homes in Ellesmere Port and Neston which could be brought back into use to help first time buyers and young families.

People who own empty homes will get a grant or cheap loan so they can be brought back into use. Grants if the home is to be used for social housing, loans for private use.

We will investigate reforming public sector borrowing requirements to free councils to borrow money against their assets in order to build a new generation of council homes. Our fair policies on tax and banking will also have a dramatic effect on many people’s lives. Our income tax policy would give people more money in their pockets, this will help first time buyers or low income families to buy or rent their own home. What we propose for the banks would make it easier for small companies to get the money they need to buildmore homes.
