Do you think any action is required on the M56 motorway between junctions 14 and 12, in light of the number of traffic collisions on that stretch over the past six months?

Weaver Vale residents deserve safe roads.

If elected, I would meet with all of the agencies involved on a regular basis and work with them to ensure that we solve the problems people are experiencing on this road and other roads.

I would want to see solutions based on evidence and also sensible time scales for the completion of any road works.

This constituency relies heavily on cars due to the limited availability of local transport infrastructure.

However, I would also encourage local residents to use public transport whenever possible, to cut down on congestion, while also reducing carbon emissions and particulate pollution in the constituency.

Do you think Weaver Vale’s green spaces are suitable for developments such as Frodsham Wind Farm, Ince Resource Recovery Park and the proposed Hapsford Solar Farm?

I am a supporter of green energy production and would choose it in preference to carbon-based energy generation, which simply adds to carbon emissions and exacerbates climate change.

I support Frodsham Wind Farm and Hapsford Solar Farm. I understand some residents have concerns, but this is safe, green, renewable energy rather than yet more unsustainable carbon-based energy production.

Ince Resource Recovery Park is an impressive project which will attract jobs and entrepreneurial SMEs to the area.

I am a supporter of biogas generation from waste and the idea of using this energy to power the site, but I am not a supporter of an incinerator on the site.

If elected, and the site is built, I would meet regularly with the owners, the relevant environmental agencies and local residents to ensure that emission levels are adhered to, that air monitoring is carried out in key areas and at residents’ request and strict penalties are enforced.

Finally, I would encourage people nationally to reduce, reuse and recycle rather than building unwanted incinerators for our waste.

How would you support the delivery of the Halton Curve and improve rail travel in Weaver Vale?

This constituency relies heavily on cars due to the limited availability of local transport infrastructure.

Weaver Vale needs investment in its rail network, including for the Halton Curve.

However, other problems face rail users. The Manchester to Chester line currently has some of the oldest rolling stock in the country and rail users deserve better.

My major concern, however, is that our train stations are not fit for purpose and discriminate against wheelchair users, people with mobility problems and families with babies in buggies.

If you are a wheelchair user, you can get access to the platform at Northwich station and travel in to Manchester.

However, on the way back, you have to get off at a different station and somehow find your way back to Northwich because there is no disabled access on that side of the station.

This is an unbelievable and unacceptable situation in today’s modern Britain and cannot be allowed to continue.

Is it fair that motorists in Weaver Vale have to pay to use certain roads, for example the Silver Jubilee and Mersey Gateway bridges?

I am a supporter of the investment in the new Mersey Gateway, which will improve journeys, cut travel time and result in less fuel being burned and lower emissions due to less congestion.

It makes sense to send through-traffic across the new bridge and to reserve the other crossing for local traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.

I don’t have a problem with having a toll charged for cars and lorries, with free access to the bridge for blue badge holders, cyclists and pedestrians.

I would, however, as the local MP, negotiate a reduced toll for all Weaver Vale residents so that this is an affordable option as well as a convenient improvement to the road system.
