AN ELDERLY driver had to be cut from his car after crashing into a lamppost in Winsford town centre.

The 79-year-old man received only minor injuries in the accident, which took place at the junction of High Street and Dingle Lane, opposite the Golden Lion pub, shortly after 11am on Mon- day.

The accident also involved an out-of-service Cheshire County Council school bus.

Firefighters freed the man from the wreckage of his Vauxhall Vectra.

Paramedics were called and the pensioner was treated at Leighton Hospital before being released.
