AN ELDERLY driver had to be cut from his car after crashing into a lamppost in Winsford town centre.

Fortunately the 79-year-old man received only minor injuries following the smash at the junction of High Street and Dingle Lane, opposite the Golden Lion pub, shortly after 11am on Monday, October 13.

Firefighters freed the man from the wreckage of his Vauxhall Vectra after the accident, which also involved an out of service Cheshire County Council school bus.

Paramedics were called and the pensioner was treated at Leighton Hospital before being released.
