NORTHWICH Vics’ winter of discontent continued on Saturday after three first-half goals made their long trip home from Weymouth a painful one.

Two goals in the first ten minutes from Weymouth’s Stuart Beavon and a 32-minute strike from debutant Lee Phillips put the game beyond Vics.

New signing Damien Reeves and speedster Dean Lodge went close for the visitors in the second half but it was the vast majority of the 1,105 crowd that went home happy.

Vics’ general manager Dave Thomas said: “It was a bit of a disaster really. Their keeper saved well from Dean Lodge and Lee Elam had a shot cleared off the line and in the second half we had most of the play but that’s all that went well for us.”

Vics boss Steve King, who was unavailable for comment, has continued to shuffle his pack in his bid to ignite Vics’ push for safety with the arrival of two new players.

Reeves, 23, joined from Histon last week while 22-year-old defender Jay Conroy, who conceded a fourth- minute penalty on Saturday, has signed from Blue Square South outfit Havant & Waterlooville.

Paul Barratt and Damian Flynn have gone the other way with Barratt joining Fleetwood Town on a month’s loan.

Vics made the short trip across the border to Wrexham last night, a match that took place after the Chronicle went to press, for a league clash with Dean Saunders’ promotion-seeking Dragons.

This Saturday, Vics continue their travels down to Woking for their rescheduled Blue Square Premier clash with the Cards (3pm).

The match had been due to be played at the Marston’s Arena but Vics are still locked out by former chairman Mike Connett (see front and back pages).
