LLANDYRNOG United manager John James is urging his side to deny second-from-top Llangefni Town the chance today to take over pole position for the first time this season.

“We held them to a 1-1 draw at home in November so we have it in us to do even better if we can produce our best form,” he said.

With leaders Flint Town without a game, a point is all Llangefni need to move to the summit.

“We looked solid at the back to preserve a clean sheet in beating Guilsfield 3-0 last Saturday so our confidence is high,” added James, who will again look to midfield ace Myles Todd and hitman Jonathan Slater to shine.

“Two goals in the last six minutes meant we finished strongly but we need to maintain this level if we are to succeed against a Llangefni side with a lot to play for.”

Llangefni manager Adie Jones has a full squad available, writes Keith Evans, but an option could be provided by forward Marcus Orlik, who is signed on second-club forms from Porthmadog.

Meanwhile, Llandudno – fourth-placed and seven points off the top – go to lowly Ruthin seeking revenge after a 2-1 home upset last month.

James Cornish, the Seasiders’ joint manager with Deiniol Graham, said: “Ruthin wanted to win more than we did that day and we paid for that attitude.”

Goalkeeper Andy Rooney, last season’s first choice, who sustained a serious ankle injury during training in July, will begin his come-back, taking over from 16-year-old Shaun Pearson, who is out with a knee problem.

Striker Joe Morgan could also resume after a hand injury but midfielder Darren Jones continues a suspension.

Guilsfield will be looking for a rare win over Buckley Town today as they bid to enhance their mid-table status, writes John Bridgwater.

The villagers continued their defence of the Central Wales Cup with a 3-2 extra time quarter-final win at Presteigne.

“I don’t think we’ve ever beaten Buckley so it’s something we want to put right,” said player-boss Mike Barton.

“We’ve got a few battered limbs after the Presteigne game which we made hard work of winning.”

Keeper Barton is struggling along with Graeme McGill and Rob Cookson while Andy Reeve and Simon Edwards are both unavailable. Craig Edwards is back from suspension.
