A BARNTON couple are celebrating 10 years together this week, thanks to help from the Chronicle.

Roy and Michelle Martin met through the pages of this newspaper in March 1998 and married 18 months later – and they never looked back.

Roy, 38, explained: “In 1997 I split from my wife and I thought I’d never find happiness again. I’d never looked in a singles column before, so I decided to give it a go.

“I placed an ad and received quite a few replies – one in particular caught my attention.

“I made contact and it was really worth the effort. We spoke for hours on the phone like we were long lost friends.”

Roy met Michelle, now 39, on March 25, 1998 at the Abbey Arms pub near Delamere.

Roy said: “At the time, I was living in Wales and Michelle was in Northwich, so I thought that the distance would cause a problem.

“But in July the same year, Michelle asked if I would like to move in with her, so I moved to Northwich and have since made the town my home.”

A year to the day they first met, Roy took Michelle to the Abbey Arms and proposed. The couple, who have daughters Amy, 14, Hannah, seven and Natasha, five, will have been married 10 years in November next year.
